The world stainless association has released figures for the first nine months of 2023 showing that stainless steel melt shop production increased by 2.5% year–on–year to 42.6 million metric tons.

Total world crude steel production was 1,888.2 Mt in 2023, more or less same as 1,888.7 Mt in 2022. China produced1,019.1 Mt in 2023, same as 2022 but 67.4 Mt in December 2023, down 14.9% on December 2022.?Africa produced 22 Mt in 2023, up 5.7% on 2022. Asia and Oceania produced 1367 Mt, up 0.7%. The EU (27) produced 126 Mt, down 7.4%. Europe, Other produced 41.7 Mt, down 4.6%. The Middle East produced 53.2 Mt, up 1.3%. North America produced 109.6 Mt, down 1.7%. Russia & other CIS + Ukraine produced 88.1 Mt, up 4.5%. South America produced 41.5 Mt, down 5.7%.
